Miller to serve as acting dean of Arts Division

Professor Leta Miller will serve as Acting Dean of the Arts Division while Dean Edward Houghton is on sabbatical during winter and spring quarters.

A faculty member since 1978, Miller has served in a number of key positions in the Music Department and Arts Division. She served as Department Chair for three years, from 1992 to 1995, and again in 2004-2005. She also has provided significant Senate service, including membership on the Committee on Teaching, the Committee on Privilege and Tenure, the Committee on Research, and the Committee on Academic Personnel, which she chaired for two years.

In addition to her campus service, she is a member of a number of professional organizations, including the American Musicological Society and the Society for American Music, for which she has served in a number of leadership positions. Professor Miller's recent research focuses on 20th-century American music. She has authored books and articles on Lou Harrison, John Cage, Henry Cowell, Charles Ives, and others.
