Kerim Duran
The screen fades from black.
We see a young attractive girl, in her early 20s; she is dressed as if she were
to be going to a club. She tries to be sincere as possible as she looks into
the camera.
Girl: I think you‚re a really cool person and all∑ I really like
hanging out with you.
Cut to a shirt less guy who is looking straight into the camera with a
disappointed look on his face.
Cuts back to the girl.
Girl (Continues): I really do, but I just want to be friends.
As she completes her line, she puts her hands on the guy‚s shoulder.
The last words slowly repeats itself in the background, as it were some melody
to a piece of music, „just friends∑..just friends‰ and it
slowly fades down. While the repetitiveness continues, the camera turns to face
the guy, who is also dressed up for a club- it‚s the same guy that
didn‚t have the shirt. The guy looks at her with a heart broken
expression. He then sees her looking off at a distance. As he turns his head to
look, he sees a guy flexing his muscles. He turns to face her again, noticing
her small grin as she continues to look over. He stares into the camera, which
slowly cross dissolves to him being shirtless.
It then cuts to a profile of him looking in the mirror.
He begins to check himself out in the mirror. He begins to wiggle his
body to see how much fat he actually has on him.
Guy: I‚m sick and tired of being people‚s friends. No more Mr. Nice
guy, I‚m going to be a new man pretty soon. None of this friendship crap.
He then exits the frame.
The guy walks into his house carrying bottles of protein supplement along with
fitness magazines. He scatters the goods on the kitchen counter. He pulls out
the protein supplement container and begins to read the instructions.
Instructions say: „Three shakes a day after a balance meal.‰
He pulls the blender and makes himself a shake. With the shake in his hand, he
walks over to the counter and grabs the Maxim‚s calendar and posts it on
the wall. As he drinks the shake with disgust, he marks off his starting point
of his work out day. He begins flexing his feeble arms for the girl
that‚s on the calendar. He starts talking to the poster.
Guy: Do you think I have a chance?
The camera cuts to a close up of the girl on the calendar.
Guy: Yeah, I don‚t think it‚ll happen. But it won‚t hurt to
try.
He weighs himself, and finds out that he‚s 190lbs.
Next day. We see on the track, he‚s not properly dressed for running.
He‚s wearing a pair of boots, cargo pants, and a white shirt that says
„Stop following me, cause I don‚t know where I‚m
going.‰ He stretches on the track, getting ready to run. He begins to
loosen up, and begins to run. Actually, he sprints the track. It is not
even a quarter of the way, and the guy stops and begins coughing, desperately
seeking for air. As he tries to control his breathing, he takes a seat on the
lawn. He looks around the track and sees people just jogging in proper attire. He
hears a woman‚s voice from the distance saying, „just want to be
friends‰. He gets up from the ground and begins to jog.
Fade to black then fade from black.
He comes home sore, barely walking. He goes and makes a shake. He drinks it.
Then he steps on to the scale, and the scale still reads 190lbs. He looks at
the scale with frustration. Then he goes to the calendar and marks off another
day. Then he goes to bed.
Fade to Black. We hear the alarm go off.
Fade from black.
We see a close up of him drinking the shake.
Fade to black then fade from black.
We see a close up of a brand new running step in to frame, the camera slowly
pulls out and tilts up to reveal the guy wearing running apparel. He loosens
up, and begins to jog.
Montage Sequence:
We see a time elapse long shot of the guy running the track, as the day quickly
passes him- morning, afternoon, and evening. It is then intercut with him doing
sit-ups, push-ups, pull-ups, drinking the shakes, and marking off the days on
the calendar. It ends with nightfall.
Fade to black then fade from black.
A week goes by, he comes home and goes to the scale to weigh himself. The scale
reads 185lbs. He‚s a little satisfied, and has a shake and goes to bed.
Fade to black then fade from black.
Montage Sequence repeats itself, but this time a little faster, and the
calendar days are different. And it ends with him stepping on the scale, which
shows 178lbs.
Fade to black then fade from black.
Shot of the guy sitting all alone at the table with a shake on one hand and a
fitness magazine in the other. He reads an article about how shaving all his
body hairs can speed up a person‚s metabolism. He quickly downs the
shake rushes over to the bathroom and looks for a razor and clipper. He looks
at himself in the bathroom mirror. Without thinking too much, he pulls out the
clippers and shaves his head as well as his chest, arms, and legs.
Fade to black then fade from black.
The montage sequence starts again, but this time a bit faster, the calendar
days being checked off, and a bald guy doing the running. It ends with him on
the scale weighing 164lbs.
Fade to black then fade from black.
He finishes taking a shower and goes over to the mirror to check himself out.
He‚s becoming happy with the way he looks and gains confidence. Suddenly,
the girl who rejected him appears in the locker room, and looks at him. She
begins to criticize his progress.
Girl: You think that you‚re fit, oh hell no! Look at all that fat you still
have.
She grabs his love handles and shakes it.
Girl: You‚re still not good enough for me, or for anyone. You‚re
still fucking fat. You need to work out, cause it doesn‚t look like you
have been.
The girl cusses him out, trying to make him feel bad but also causing him to
work out more. Then the guy slowly begins to breakdown. He looks at himself in
the mirror. The girl continues to nag him. The guy slowly goes down on his knee
and begins to cry. He covers his face to prevent her from seeing his tears. The
nagging continues as he makes an outburst.
Guy: I‚m trying my best to∑..
The girl is gone from the locker room.
Fade to black then fade from black.
He comes into his house with more bottles of protein supplement. The guy picks
up one of the protein bottle and reads the instructions again. He pulls out the
blender. He makes a shake and drinks it, then another, and another until he can
no longer drink more.
Fade to black then fade from black.
The montage sequence starts again, but this time a bit faster, the calendar
days being checked off, and a bald guy doing the running. It shows the guy
overloading himself with protein shakes. It ends with him on the scale weighing
150 lbs.
Fade to black then fade from black.
The montage sequence starts again, but this time a bit faster, the calendar
days being checked off, and a bald guy doing the running. And the guy
overloading himself with protein shakes. But it abruptly begins to slow down,
the guy begins to cough as he is running. He stops to the side of the track,
and begins to vomit. As he vomits, a woman‚s voice is heard, „do
you just want to be friends?‰ He nods his head no. He gets back on the
track and starts to run. The woman voice continues, „I‚ll be more
than happy to be just a friend.‰ He nods his head no, and begins running
harder. As he begins to run faster, he begins to cough again.
„What‚s wrong with friendship‰ said the woman voice. The guy
suddenly stops, and vomits again. The guy clearing his mouth tells the voice,
„That‚s not what I want.‰ The woman voice then replies,
„Go for what you want.‰ The guy begins to run like he never ran
before in his life. We see his pain on screen as! he runs for what he wants.
His face begins to turn red as he painfully pushes his limit. Suddenly, he
stops and falls to the track floor. He begins to breathe heavily as well and
rapidly grabs his mid chest as if something had stabbed him. His breathing
begins to slow down as his hand grabs his chest. Gradually his energy dwindles
until he lies there lifeless. Suddenly the screen is blown out to complete
whiteness.
We see the guy and the girl together again. The guy is in his normal body
weight before the transformation. This is almost a repeat of the beginning
scene. Except this time there is a voice over job from the guy.
Guy
(v.o.): In a perfect world, looks are non-existent. People shouldn‚t be
judged for their appearance, nor should they be judged on their personal
assessments. It is society to be blamed for the desire of the perfect body. As
a result destruction of one‚s self comes to the individuals who pursues
this. In reality, we don‚t live in a perfect world. God, what a shame. I
pity those people who are the cause of our imperfections, because the truth is
that everyone is perfect.
As the voice over goes on, we see the guy staring into the camera.
Guy: It‚s not worth it.
He walks away from the girl.
The girl is left in the background yelling about his comment. The screen fades
to black.
The end.
