Repulsion

The hospital voice box chimes with a woman’s voice,

“Calling Dr. Monaham…please report to ICU 120, calling Dr. Monaham..”  The sound of a squeaky pushcart can be heard in the distance growing with intensity as the cart peers into eyesight from around the corner. Amy sits with her legs side by side and uncoordinatedly taps her feet in suspense. Amy, with her head slightly tilted downward and eye’s glued to the floor, is startled at first by a nurse’s uninvited hand protruding into her space. With mini Dixie cup in palm, the nurse gives Amy a pill and water cup. The  nurse councils Amy on the precautions and side effects of the morning after pill as we hear footsteps and a cart rolling away in the distance. The nurse’s voice reverberates in her ears and through out her mind,

“Side effect include nausea, vomiting, and excessive bleeding…take it easy for a couple days and you should feel better after that.”  It does sound a little excruciating but not as much as nine months of this.” As Amy shifts her glance upward and takes the pill, the external sounds of the hospital room begin to fade as her internal sounds magnify; the dryness in her mouth, her breath scratching against her throat, and gulps of saliva sliding down her throat to quench the burning desire to cry inside. A soothing mother's voice is heard comforting her baby. Sudden cycles of black spots blur her vision. She rubs her head and eyes as voices invade her thoughts. Harsh words spoken by an older woman’s voice is heard:

“ I could've aborded you, but I didn't." Amy lifts her head and exhales out deeply.

                                                                                                            FADE OUT.

Across from the women’s doctor’s office, Amy sits in anticipation of a very delayed bus. A punk rock girl about the same age is standing beside the bus bench. She smokes, using a crumpled zine as her ashtray. She inhales her last toke as she smashes the butt of her cigarette into the pamphlet. No one knows what Amy has done but she perceives the whole world as if they were commenting on her actions. Although the woman standing near her isn't saying anything at all, Amy hears,

“Women should be in your face, crass as fucking is just plain fucking; just because a thirteen year old girl bleeds every month does it mean she should be handed a mop and a diaper full of baby shit? What if she's too selfish to raise kids and husbands? Right now she's just stuck on whether or not to respect her daddy…"

While Amy is hearing all of this, the girl proceeds to blow the ashes into the air and toss the paper onto the bench and walk away.

                                                                                                         FADE OUT:

She stops half way up, turns around and sits down with a hole in the knee of her stockings. The mother runs up and pushes her to keep walking up the stairs. But the little girl is scared and runs away crying.

They kiss as Rick slides on top of her as she falls back onto the chair and looks up at the pictures moving above her on the screen. Rick reaches up over her and turns the T.V. off. Amy says,
