During my learning years I was lucky enough to have several fine private instructors. In my teaching style I admit I draw heavily from each of them. I want to create an intellectually safe atmosphere in lessons. I am supportive of my student's efforts. I am positive in my suggestions and comments. I strive to create an atmosphere where students can show me what they've done in a week without self-consciousness, without performance anxiety, without dread and fear. I like to affirm their work and their musical experience. I try diligently to keep an open mind with regard to their goals and ideas while helping them recognize the discipline that goes into their art. I want my students to leave each lesson excited about playing the bassoon. An finally, what I want the most is for each student to succeed and be the best they can be. All of my efforts go in this direction. |
