"Cope's Triplum is a magnificent realization for the medium, an inspired contribution to its literature. Many works using special techniques are found to be containers in which the effects are so much gas being pumped into them. Not here. There is no special pleading in calling for the plucking, pinching, and striking of the piano strings, the hitting of the piano's crossbar, the bent flute pitches, the singing and whispering of the performers, etc. All are justified qualities in terms of the tale, convincing synonyms that keep the ears concentrated, from the initial part built out of doublings of contrasted timbres to the concluding four measures which consist only of whisperings."
