A take-off on baroque
"geometrical dance" performed in French court
ballets is enacted by six "celestial sirens" draped
in voluminous folds evoking Botticelli and Isadora
Duncan. To a cacophonous score by Edgard Varese,
these characters are by abrupt turns both Nymphs
and Furies, victims and agents, in an emotional
negotiation with the spectator.
