FILM 170B-01 Fundamentals of Film/Video Production Spring 2009 Tu/Th 10:30 – 1:00 and LAB Thur. 1:00 – 2:30 Rm 113/ Studio B Professor Chip Lord - lord@ucsc.edu 459 4296(messages) Office Hours: Tuesday 1:00 – 2:00 ….and by appointment. In Fundamentals we will work with digital video to develop media production skills. Attendance and participation in class are essential as we will be covering a great deal of material in a short period of time. If three or more classes are missed, unexcused, a NOT PASS may be given. Costs: There is a lab fee of $90.00 (plus $1.00 University handling fee) due for this course to cover miscellaneous film LAB expenses, maintenance, and use of the cameras. You are responsible for providing your own hard drive and digital media storage (CD, thumb drive, back-up). Information Your final evaluation and/or grade will be based on the following: Regular Attendance and active participation in group projects 10 Assignment No. 1 - Continuity Exercise and editing participation 5 Assignment No. 2 - Narrative project Due: May 12 30 Assignment No. 3 - Long Take Due: Apr 28 20 Treatment for Documentary Due: May 12 5 Assignment No. 4 - Documentary Due: tba 30 Attendance at the Final Screening Incompletes for the course are NOT routinely given. Please assess your time commitments early - problems meeting deadlines that arise because of difficulties budgeting time are not a compelling reason for an Incomplete Food and Drinks are NOT allowed in Rm 113 or any studio spaces in the Building. In all production spaces: replace cables, turn off machines, and clean the work area at the end of your session. |
