Recording Services

The UCSC Music Department provides recording services through the Music Center Recording Studio, located in room 109 (adjacent to the Ensemble Rehearsal Room) in the Music Center.

The Music Center Recording Studio provides live digital recording of Music Department events scheduled in the Music Center Recital Hall. See the Event Recording Information sheet, available at the Music Facilities office in the Music Center, and at the Recording Studio.

Duplicating Services

The Music Center Recording Studio also provides limited CD duplication services for recordings of Music Department sponsored events. CD copies of most recitals are available for $10 each, cassette copies are available for $15 each, and DAT copies are available for $20. See the Recording Duplication Request Information sheet, available at the Music Facilities office in the Music Center, and at the Recording Studio.

We can also perform master tape backups and transfers. We support CD, DAT, Alesis ADAT, half-track, and Sony PCM-F1 (VHS and ß).

Event Recordings

In order to ensure a good recording of your performance (or session), we will ask you to assist us by providing information such as: program repotoire with timings, instrumentation, staging, and any possible encores. Is there a score available for the engineer? Do you have special technical needs? Is there anything unusual about your performance that we should know about beforehand? Indicate a time you'd like to do sound check to set recording levels. (We usually get our recording levels around an hour before show time.) Please send us your technical rider, if you have one. If convenient, you may Email any or all of this information to billski@ucsc.edu

We will record your performance onto digital audio CD's. Most standard recitals require 2 CD's - one for the first half of the program and another for the second half. We then copy the CD's and give the copy to you after the performance. The original master CD is for the permanent Music Department Recordings Archive.

Additional cassette and DAT copies of your recital are available from the Music Center Recording Studio (CD's for $10, cassettes for $15 and DATs for $20). See the Recording Duplication Request Information sheet, available at the Music Facilities office in the Music Center, and at the Recording Studio.
