New York-based artist Sheila Pepe juxtaposes her 1997 ambient video "Blue Dress (twenty minutes of freeplay)" with a new industrial rubberband and crocheted shoelace installation "Girders, Fence". Pepe notes, "The installation will continue a series of work that recasts the New York City landscape in terms of gestural abstraction and decorative handicrafts. Together, the works put forward a vision of sex in the city not yet seen on TV."

The Sesnon Gallery will host Pepe for an artist-in-residency from January 8-13 giving UCSC students the opportunity to participate in the installation of her new piece for the gallery. Pepe will also conduct in-class lectures and gallery walk-throughs and give a public lecture on Wednesday, January 12 at 5PM in Baskin Visual Arts Seminar Room D101. The opening reception will follow at 6PM at the Sesnon Gallery. The exhibition runs January 12 through March 5, 2005.
