PLACE OF BIRTH: Sacramento, CA I have been exploring the use of grid-like patterns and repetition in my work for the past several years. I am interested in the ways in which a repeated passage transforms and varies as it appears and reappears in the composition. This is caused by the circumstances under which the painting was created; important factors include everything from the humidity in the air and the age of the paint, to my mindset at the time and the mood of the studio. By using commonplace objects -- ones presumably part of the typical viewer's day to day routine -- I hope to comment on the physicality of the passage of time and underline the beauty of small, fugitive details. |
