Fueled by my experiences of being a woman, my work tends to reflect on the many layers of feminist thinking and an examination of what it means to be a woman. In my work I hope to define myself in the context of others. Much of my work is simply based on the human body. I have an affinity to both the physical and the feminine. This seems to be a way for me to reconcile my experiences most effectively. Materials stimulate my creative process and influence the direction of my art. I work on wooden panels so that I can construct a textural surface, creating a very tactile, tangible, and three-dimensional landscape. Fascinated with the physical planes of layered material, I work through emotions using wires, rusty nails, pins, porcupine quills, wax and other antiquated objects. These materials personalize the surface of my work and give the viewer a window into my world. My palate gives meaning to the texture and I use the hues that best define my feelings. The corporeal nature of my work is its most essential aspect.
