Los Angeles-based photographer Catherine Opie became well known with her inclusion in the 1995 Whitney Biennial exhibition. Her portraits of members of L.A.'s pierced and tattooed fetish community received wide acclaim for their poignancy, dignity and quiet beauty.
Her current work-platinum photographs of the L.A. freeways and large color photographs of Beverly Hills house facades-continues her involvement with the ideas of community and autobiography.
