Biography

Cornelia Schulz is a painter who has lived and worked in the Bay Area for over thirty years. She studied at the Los Angeles County Art Institute (now Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design) and San Francisco Art Institute receiving her M.F.A. in 1962. She has exhibited both regionally and nationally since 1962 with an occasional hiatus where other involvements took precedence in her life. Her work addresses issues of abstraction, light, space, pattern, surface tension and relationship. She has been the recipient of a S.E.C.A. award from the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, A National Endowment for the Arts Individual Artist Grant, and recently a Marin Arts Council Individual Artist Grant. She has been a Professor of Art at U.C. Davis since 1975 where she received a Distinguished Teaching Award in 1985 and chaired the Department of Art from 1988 to 1992. She currently lives and has her studio in Fairfax, California. She is represented by Patricia Sweetow Gallery, San Francisco.
